Philippe Gatta

Story

Philippe was born in Nice (France) in 1968. Since then he has been passionate about outdoor activities; running, skiing, rock climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking and canyoning.

In 2006 Philippe finished the Marathon des Sables (210km in the Sahara Desert) and the Defi de l'Oisans (200km and 12000m of cumulative ascents in the Alps in 6 days). He climbed several hundreds of sport routes in France.

In 2007, he climbed Aconcagua, Mt. Everest and Mt Elbrus. Still excited about rock climbing, he succeeded many sport routes up to 8b+ (5.14a). Always passionate about trail, he ran 3000km. He recorded 130000m of cumulative climbs with his Suunto Observer.

Why do you use Suunto ABC wristops?

I started to use the Suunto Vector in 1999 during my first expedition on Cho Oyu. Since then I used it, as well as the Suunto Observer and the Suunto X6HRT, in many adventures around the world.

Suunto wristops helped me out in many difficult situations. They were absolutely necessary during the Himal Race and the sand storm in the Marathon des Sables.

Now I use the Suunto X6HRT almost on a daily basis for my training and workout. It is very useful to be able to visualize the heart rate and altitude on a same graph.

Latest expeditions

Mt. Vinson in December 2007, Carstensz in March 2008, and the Everest Lafuma Sky Race in November 2008.
